Lille 21

Lille, France

OCTOBER 2021

Lille was never what I expected when I moved abroad in 2007. A small city on the French-Belgian border, it was like nowhere else I had been. Lille’s Flemish architecture distinguishes the city from anywhere else in France.

Lille, often by chance, has become witness to some of the most significant moments in my life. It was the first place I made my home outside of the United States, and showed me a different side of France. It is also the place, where by chance, I had my first date with my now husband, though we didn’t know it was a date at the time.
